HOW DOES ONLINE TUTORING WORK?
Set up a FREE Online Reading Assessment with Janay. This assessment allows Janay to pinpoint your child's reading gaps and will enable us to create an individualized learning plan for your child.
We find the days and times that work best to meet weekly via Zoom.
Janay will re-assess every three months to ensure progress and to continue to adapt your child's learning plan to meet their needs and continue to close the reading gap.
WILL MY CHILD BE ENGAGED?
Yes! One of the main reasons I love to tutor is to maximize the students' potential through individual attention. Children of all abilities and ages are successful with online tutoring sessions. I have even worked with students with ADHD and other learning disabilities successfully online. The sessions are very interactive as I guide students through leveled reading and other activities, quizzes, and lessons requiring their total concentration.
I advise you to set your child up at a place in your home that is quiet. You can certainly sit in on a session with them, but it is not required. Also, I believe that it eliminates a lot of distractions if your child wears headphones during the session.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO PARTAKE IN ONLINE TUTORING?
In order to partake in this online reading program you will need the following:
A computer, laptop, or other device that can be used to access the internet.
An email address.
A student portal account that can be accessed here. This is where you can log in to see payments, session notes, a session calendar and more.
A headset with a microphone
(recommended) or a regular pair of headphones.
5. Zoom. Which is a FREE video conferencing program that we will use to host our tutoring sessions online.
Occasionally, I might email you something to download prior to the session or suggest purchasing an item prior to a session to enhance your child's lessons.
WHY DO YOU TUTOR ONLINE?
I love the flexibility that tutoring online allows my students and me. I also feel as if I can reach more students and make more of an impact this way. I used to drive around to different houses and locations, and it just wasn't an effective way to use my time. We live in a digital age, and my students are always excited and engaged when using technology in conjunction with their learning. I believe tutoring online is a highly effective way to enrich your child's education and improve their technological literacy skills.
And the icing on the cake? Tutoring online allows me to be the best mother and wife I can be. I can spend more time with my family at the end of the day and less time driving around to various sessions. If we go out of town or to a doctor's appointment, sessions can still go on. It's a win-win for everybody!
HOW MUCH DOES TUTORING WITH YOU COST?
My tutoring rates depend on if you sign up for half-hour sessions or hour sessions. Meeting for an assessment helps us create an individualized learning plan and determine how many hours your child will need weekly to close the reading gap. I usually work with students one or two days a week (sometimes more) based on the student at hand and their specific needs.
Typically, each session lasts an hour. The session includes approximately 50-55 minutes of instruction and 5-10 minutes for discussion with the student and or parent(s).
You will make payments in advance on the first of each month via Stripe. I keep your credit card information on file, and your card is charged automatically on the 1st of each month.
